Camera Color Calibration

Rapta’s AI platform relies on accurate color representation from the camera to deliver reliable inspection and verification results. Over time, or after changes to the operating environment, the camera’s color balance may drift from its optimal settings. This can result in degraded AI performance particularly for applications that depend on color differentiation such as wire color verification, label inspection or component identification.

Color calibration may be needed when:

  • The camera has been replaced or swapped between stations
  • Lighting conditions at the workstation have changed (e.g., new overhead lighting, relocation of the station)
  • AI inspection results show unexpected false positives or false negatives related to color
  • The camera image appears to have an unnatural color tint (e.g., blue tint from an anti-static mat reflection)
  • A factory reset has been performed on the camera

Calibration Procedure

Follow the steps below to calibrate the camera color settings. This process resets the camera to its default state and then runs Rapta’s automatic adjustment to optimize white balance, color, gain and other parameters for your environment.

Step 1: Factory Reset the Camera

Navigate to the Setup page in the Rapta platform and select the Camera tab. Select Factory Reset for the camera you want to calibrate. This will restore the camera to its default configuration and clear any previous color adjustments.

Step 2: Unplug the Camera

After the factory reset is complete, physically unplug the camera from its USB or PoE connection. Wait a minimum of 30 seconds before proceeding to the next step. This ensures the camera fully powers down and reinitializes with the default settings.

Step 3: Reconnect the Camera with a White Reference

Plug the camera back in and hold a sheet of plain white paper directly in front of the camera lens, filling the entire field of view. Keep the paper in position until the next step is complete.

Important Note: The white paper must be the dominant color in the camera’s field of view during auto adjustment. Using a colored surface such as a blue anti-static mat will result in incorrect color calibration.

Step 4: Run Auto Adjust

With the white paper still in front of the camera, navigate to the Setup tab and select Auto Adjust Camera. The system will automatically configure the white balance, color, gain and other parameters based on the white reference.

Once the auto adjustment is complete, remove the white paper and verify the camera image displays accurate and natural colors across your workstation.
