Data Capture Action
Overview
The Data Capture Action is a versatile feature that enables the collection and processing of various text-based data inputs, including barcodes, measurements, and custom field entries. This functionality streamlines data collection processes and integrates seamlessly with industry-standard scanning hardware.
Version Support
Supported from V7.7.0.
Input Types Supported
- Barcode scanning (1D and 2D or QR code)
- Serial numbers
- Part numbers
- Electrical measurements
- Voltage readings
- Current measurements
- Resistance (ohm) values
- Custom text fields
Hardware Compatibility
The Data Capture Action is compatible with leading industrial USB barcode scanners including:
- Zebra Technologies
- Honeywell
- Symbol
Auto-Progression Feature
When a barcode scanner is configured with carriage return enabled, the system automatically advances to the next field after successful capture, enhancing workflow efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
Implementation Guidelines
Scanner Configuration
- Connect your compatible USB barcode scanner to the Rapta AI station
- Ensure the scanner is set to USB keyboard emulation mode
- Configure carriage return settings if auto-progression is desired
Data Field Setup
- Define the expected input format for each field
- Specify any validation rules required for the data
- Configure field sequence for auto-progression
- Set up any required data transformation rules
Best Practices
- Test scanner configurations before deployment
- Validate data capture accuracy regularly
- Maintain consistent scanning distances for optimal results
- Keep scanner firmware updated
- Clean scanning windows regularly for reliable performance

Troubleshooting
- Scanner not recognized
- Verify USB connection and the operational light is ON
- Auto-progression not working
- Verify carriage return configuration on scanner, this is required for auto progression. Progression to the next step can be trigged by the ENTER key or NEXT step button.
Technical Specifications
- Maximum string length: 160 characters
- Supported character sets: ASCII, UTF-8
Integration Options
- REST API support for data retrieval
- Export assembly records to JSON and CSV
